Aloha Climbing Hybrid Tea; 'Mercedes Gallart' x
'New Dawn', Boerner, 1949Date Planted: April 1, 1998 Source: J & P, local nursery Exposure Full sun all day
'Aloha' has been wow!-ing passersby since 1949. The flowers are remarkable; big, blowzy cups full of petals in the fashion of the old hybrid
perpetuals, with an outstanding rose and apple fragrance. It blooms in sprays and singles on long stems, and is a terrific rose for cutting. One spray makes an instant bouquet!
In growth, 'Aloha' straddles the boundary between shrub and climber, sending out arching branches 6 or 7 ft. in length, though it won't readily climb to any great height.
'Aloha' is best suited to growing along a fence or training onto a pillar.
The ample foliage is large, fine-textured and glossy. Disease resistance is outstanding in the no-spray Darwinian war zone I optimistically call a garden. In fact, I've never known this rose to mildew and
it's nearly spot-free as well. It's an incredibly healthy rose. 'Aloha' covers an 8' high by 10' wide section of my front porch and is almost constantly in bloom. It takes does take
a few years to reach this size, so be patient. You'll be amply rewarded. To see more photos, visit the Photo Gallery!
