Applejack
Modern Shrub; Buck, 1973

Date Planted: Summer 2003
Source: Trade

I aquired this rose in 2002 and grew it in a pot until I got the bed it's in built. I am really impressed with this rose! It is extremely vigorous, having tripled in size in less than 2 months after planting in the ground. The blooms are charming in a humble way, with a wonderful apple-ish fragrance. Bred by Dr. Griffith Buck of Iowa State University, who's mission was the development of completely winter hardy roses for the colder parts of the country. Applejack is part of the legacy he left us all.

Applejack can grow to 10' tall, although I'm growing it as a shrub, so it should remain a more manageable 5' tall and at least as wide.
