Bibi Maizoon (AUSdimindo) 'The Reeve'

This rose has the form that leaps to mind when I hear the term 'cabbage rose', for the unfurling buds look like little heads of pink cabbage! The flowers are large, globe shaped and a wonderful
clear warm pink... and offer a delightful 'old rose' fragrance. This is a charming landscape plant; mine is pegged in the center of a raised bed, and forms a 5' wide by 3' tall mound
when trained in this manner. If left unpegged, it would form an elegant, arching shrub of approx. 4' x 4' or so.
The blooms come in clusters on thin stems, much like the China or Tea roses. I've heard this rose criticized for it's "weak necks" but personally I like the nodding blooms,
finding them charming in arrangements. If you like the stiff, upright bloom-on-a-stick Hybrid Tea form, then you may not find this plant appealing.
Disease has not been a problem in my no-spray Darwinian garden; it gets some minor blackspot and mildew, but nothing to worry about.
This plant takes quite a while to really settle in and strut it's stuff so give it at least three years before deciding whether or not to keep it. To see more photos, visit the Photo Gallery! Return to English Roses
