Black Jade
Miniature; Benardella, 1985

To be honest, this rose has very little to recommend it, other than the flowers - and even those come with a rather large 'but'. The flowers are a gorgeous deep, dark red color... but the spent blooms are remarkably ugly, so vigilant deadheading is required to keep it looking tidy.

In my no-spray garden, this is often one very naked plant - it doesn't have any disease resistance to speak of, except in that it will keep on blooming even when defoliated. If it took up more space, I'd have deep sixed it long ago, and will probably get around to shovel-pruning it eventually.

Bow wow woof.
