Buff Beauty
Modern Shrub/Hybrid Musk, Bentall, 1939

Date Planted: Summer 2003
Source: cutting

'Buff Beauty' is one of the more popular of the Hybrid Musks, and for good reason. The flowers are fully double and held in large, loose clusters. Their color is highly unstable, ranging from beige to honeyed apricot, and usually pales within a few days to soft cream. The fragrance is a powerful blend of tropical fruit and musk, and carries far from its source on humid days. The plant reblooms frequently throughout the growing season, with a spectacular display reserved for early autumn.

'Buff Beauty' has flexible canes that can be trained onto a wall or pillar, where it will easily achieve 8 - 10 ft. in height. Alternatively, it can be grown as a broad shrub 4 - 5 ft. tall and 6 ft. across (mine is growing as a shrub.) The foliage is large, glossy and strongly tinted with red. Disease resistance excellent in my no-spray garden. It does grow and bloom in more shade than most roses will tolerate, and the flowers hold their color better under such conditions than in full sun.
