Free Fall
by Robin Lowe Delargy

In darkness she slept, barely daring to dream
Now the sleeper's awakened to the world far below
Wide-eyed with wonder she stretches her wings
Her heart full of hope from the pinnacle she leaps

She's free, flying free
of the world beneath her
She feels the caress
of the warm summer breeze
The sun burning hot
in her mind, on her wings
Forsaking her eyrie of ignorant ease

As she circles the landscape her heart starts to question
this feeling of freedom, her right to these wings
A voice far below sings a dirge for her spirit
Her wings turn to wax as her hope melts away

Free fall, fear fall
fearful of all
The coldness of death and the light's white hot burn
Condemned to the twilight of life without future
She awaits the inevitable embrace of the earth

Hear the voice of the sky whisper truths fundamental
Feel the whistling wind wake the phoenix inside
She screams her defiance, refusing to die
So she unfurls her wings
for the fall's set her free...
