Golden Wings
Modern Shrub; Shepard, 1956

Date Planted: Spring 2003
Source: local nursery

I have lusted after this rose for the longest time, so when I spotted it at a local nursery I pounced on it. It's a grafted plant, but I have buried the graft in the hopes that it will develop its own roots. Vigorous as all get-out and constantly in bloom, this rose is a real winner! Not much fragrance, but the sunny yellow color and golden stamens give it a flirtatious quality that I find quite beguiling. As the blooms age they fade to white - they really stand out at night. Even after the petals drop, the stamens remain as golden starbursts.

The foliage has remained very clean without spraying. I really, really love this rose!
