Marchesa Boccella or Jacques Cartier
Damask Perpetual, Hybrid Perpetual or Portland; Jean Desprez, 1842 or Moreau-Robert, 1868

Date Planted: Summer 2001
Source: Uncommon Rose
Exposure: Full Sun

There is obviously some debate as to the true identity of this rose. Mix-ups have certainly been known to happen (more commonly than we'd like to think) and roses can and do get introduced into commerce under the wrong name. We aren't certain which rose this actually is, but whatever it's identity... it's a stunner!

Unlike so many roses under the Hybrid Perpetual umbrella, Marchesa Boccella/Jacque Cartier is a handsome plant indeed. In it's third year it has formed an extremely bushy and attractive 3' by 4' mound of very healthy foliage that literally covers itself with gorgeous, fragrant 3" pink button-eyed rosettes. The repeat is reliable and prolific. This cold-hardy rose can handle winters to Zone 4, once established.

If I had more room, I'd grow six of these.
