Mary RoseMary Rose (Ausmary)
('Wife of Bath' x 'The Miller') Austin, 1983

Date Planted:  March 28, 1997
Source:  J & P, local nursery
Exposure:  Filtered sun all day

Although in some respects quite humble by English Rose standards, Mary Rose is a terrific little rose.  While the blooms are less elegant or fragrant than some other Austin's, this rose is almost continuously in bloom.  The shrub itself is remarkably attractive - very bushy, twiggy and spunky looking, with fantastic disease resistance.  The blooms are a very pretty rose pink, and quite charming in their casual, inviting way.  This is an excellent landscape shrub.

The American Rose Society rated this rose as "Excellent".

Fragrance:  To my nose, Mary Rose has a lovely "Old Rose" fragrance... but I have to bury my nose in the blooms and sniff really hard to find it. the scent is much more pronounced in cooler weather.
