Mme. Caroline Testout
Hybrid Tea; Pernet-Ducher, 1890

Date Planted: Summer 2001
Source: Mail Order

'Mme. Carolyn Testout' is an early Hybrid Tea, bred by Pernet-Ducher of France in 1890. She is a marvelous example of what Hybrid Teas used to be - opulently fragrant and incredibly romantic, and a bit lighter in build than most modern members of the class.

The large (to 5") blooms are a bright satiny rose color, edged with soft carmine-pink. The flowers are impressive cabbages and the epitome of the original HT style. The fragrance is lovely as well, and the foliage has remained reasonably clean without spraying. Not as tall as many, wanting to stay about 4' tall. This is a rose for mild-winter climates, Zones 7 and higher.
