Mme. Lombard (aka Mme. Lambard) Tea; Lacharme, 1878
Date Planted: June 2001 Source: Mail Order Exposure: Full sun
Mme. Lombard (aka Mme.
Lambard) was one of the more popular Tea Roses among both gardeners and breeders of the late 1800s. The long, pointed buds spiral open into lush 4 or 5 inch blooms that tend to nod gracefully at the ends of slender
stems. Each flower undergoes a series of color transformations as it opens. Considered an Orange-Pink blend by the American Rose Society, the
buds begins as deep carmine, while the open petals develop shades of peach and shrimp pink. The fully opened flower ranges from soft peach at the center to lilac pink or
even light magenta at its edges. These colors vary with weather conditions, and some late summer and autumn blooms end up almost completely carmine colored. Repeat
bloom is excellent and the flowers are more strongly and sweetly scented than many other Tea Roses.Mme. Lombard is strong growing and bushy as Tea Roses go, its narrow branches
well-clothed in glossy, pointed foliage. Given time and a warm, sheltered position , plants will achieve heights up to 4 feet or more. Like all Tea Roses, Mme. Lombard is
sensitive to cold and can only be grown safely out-of-doors in Zones 7 or higher. To see more photos, visit the Photo Gallery! Return to Tea Roses
