Paul Neyron
Hybrid Perpetual, Desprez, 1842

Date Planted:  July 2003
Source:  Trade
Exposure:  morning & afternoon

Paul Neyron was long reputed to bear the largest flowers of any rose in cultivation. Individual blooms can measure as much as 6½ in. across. Their color is a deep, glowing lilac-tinted pink, and there is a moderate, sweet fragrance.

Paul Neyron makes a tall, narrow shrub up to 6 ft. in height. The smooth canes are light green with sparce large, pale thorns. The foliage is slightly glossy, pointed, and very large, in proportion with the flowers. Reputed to be quite disease resistant, but we shall see. Mine's still a l'il squirt!

History: Paul Neyron was a young doctor who distinguished himself by his heroism in tending the sick and wounded during the disturbances (as history calls them) of the Commune. He lost his life in the seige of Paris, at the age of 22 or 23.
