Royal Bonica (MEImodac)
Shrub Rose, Meilland, 1994 (France)Date Planted: February 25, 1999 Source: Boxed #1 rose Exposure: Full sun all day
Though this rose is hyped as an
improvement on the original Bonica, which it is a sport of, it is rumoured to be a disappointing rose. While the flowers are larger and fuller than Bonica, the plant is
reputed to be much less tough and trouble-free. I was ready to shovel-prune this plant; it was being completely engulfed by neighboring plants and I figured it didn't have a chance. Well, it's turned out to be
a fighter! It's thrown some basals and nice bloom sprays - I guess I need to thin out the competing weedy perennials and give it some room to stretch it's wings.
Gave it away. It didn't actually suck, but I didn't like it much either. Return to Shovel Pruned Roses |
