The Nun
('The Prioress' x 'Seedling')  Austin, 1987

Though modest in character, as befits its name, The Nun is a beautiful rose. Its flowers, a little more than medium sized, are almost pure white and deeply cupped in shape, with a bunch of golden stamens at the base and a good myrrh scent. Varieties with this type of flower usually have a few small petals covering the stamens, but in this rose we usually have a completely clean cup. The growth is upright to about 4' x 3' and rather open with slender and fairly large, somewhat sparse foliage. The blooms are nicely poised in large sprays and open in succession.

Did you know? 'The Nun' is named after a character in Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales".
